UPDATE ON INTERRUPTION OF BULK WATER SUPPLY DUE TO STORM DAMAGE

Date: Wednesday, 1 April 2026

uMngeni-uThukela Water would like to provide an update regarding the ongoing interruption of bulk water supply in parts of the uMngungundlovu District. This follows storm damage experienced at our Pump Stations on 27 March 2026.

One of the two motors that were damaged during the thunderstorm has been reinstalled and commissioned back into operation. uMngeni-uThukela Water is now currently recharging its bulk water system, once it has stabilised, the supply of bulk water will resume.

The pump is currently is operating at 30% of its capacity, however, focus is on optimizing this to at least meet 50% of the demand later today.

Further precautionary remedial work is being carried out on the second pump so that it comes online midday tomorrow, 02 April 2026. This will push up the water output to 100%.

It must however be noted that the system was completely drained and will take time to restore supply at a household level. Our technical teams are continuing with efforts to repair and install the second motor.

Water storage levels are still in the process of being built up. Once sufficient levels have been reached, normal water supply to affected areas will resume.

The areas impacted by the disruption include Howick, Howick West, Mpophomeni, Hilton, Vulindlela, Mshwathi, Montebello and Ozwatini under the uMngungundlovu District.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate the patience of all affected communities.
